we are live at the chicago auto show which while not as active with new product as detroit or new york still has a number of new vehicles and updates to keep the average car buff rubbing their feet. the mc cormick center is huge and is loaded to the walls. subaru introduced a new legacy, kia led off with an electric soul and an optima hybrid and nissan created a lot of buzz with a frontier pickup that has a cummins diesel stuffed under the hood and some macho paint and decaling on the outside. here are some of the highlights....
THE SUBARU LEGACY MAKES IT DEBUT
when most people think of subaru they think great wagons/crossovers that will go in any weather conditions. maybe they think about the world class WRX that takes on rally courses fron djakarta to baja but they generally dont think about mid size sedans. subaru is aiming to change that with it's new legacy sedan (pictured above). The 2015 legacy is restyled into a leaner more swept back four door coupe design that recieves a ton of safety features, all wheel drive of course and usual subaru reliabliity.
NISSAN STUFFS A BIG ONE UNDER THE HOOD
NISSAN NOT BEING QUIET ABOUT WHAT IS UNDER THE HOOD
this is one that really got the crowd of assembled media going. the midsize truck market is heating up. theres lots of buzz about chevy's colorado. nissan has a great truck in the frontier but it's design is a bit on the long side so how do you create fresh buzz? drop a cummins diesel under the hood and then ask should we build it? nissan is hoping social media will pick up on this one and tell them what to do although by the expressions on assembled nissan executives faces i'd say head down to your dealer and order it!
C'MON YOU KNOW WHAT A SOUL LOOKS LIKE BY NOW!
kia looking very green as they kicked off the show with an all electric soul that shold have delivery companies frothing at a small vehicle with the reliablity of the soul able to operate 80-100 miles on a charge. an optima hybrid was also shown off but lets face it kia is fawning all over the luxury K900. i'll be driving it next week and let you know if cuts it!
WE KNOW VOLVO CAN BE SAFE... CAN IT BE FAST?
mama wants a safe car, poppa wants something that approaches mid life crisis speed and driveability. maybe volvo just came up with the answer. they debuted their polestar performance series in chicago. polestar is volvo's racing partner and they have developed a S60 sedan and V60 sport wagon that look good, still keep all of the safety gear that equate the brand with confidence in safety but grind up the asphalt! a 345 horse 6 cyl, haldex all wheel drive system beefed up suspension, paddle shifters and special seats highlight the package. better get down to the volvo dealer though, less than 150 will be imported into the U.S.
check back friday and saturday for more updates as we walk the floors of the Chicago Auto Show
